FAQ

Do I have to learn to fly a airplane before I can learn to fly a helicopter?
No, it is not necessary to know how to fly a plane before learning to fly a helicopter.

Is it difficult to fly a helicopter?
Some feel that learning to fly a helicopter is more difficult to fly than a airplane. Airplanes naturally want to fly, while helicopters have to constantly be flown by the pilot.

If the engine quits in a helicopter, will it just fall from the sky?
No, the rotor blades are disengaged from the engine by a freewheeling unit. This allows the rotor blades to remain spinning and the helicopter can glide to the ground by means of a autorotation.

How long will it take me to complete my training?
Each person progresses at their own pace. Completion time depends on each person's skill level and frequency of lessons.

How often should I fly?
Frequent flight instruction promotes retention of knowledge. We recommend that you fly at least 3 days a week.

Can I use my GI Bill to pay for flight training?
You can only use your GI Bill to pay for flight training if you attend a FAA Part 141 approved flight school. The VA will pay for up to 60% of your ratings after you receive your Private license. You will have to pay for your Private license on your own.
